Alice McDermott (fiction) is the author of six novels: A Bigamist’s Daughter, That Night, At Weddings and Wakes, Charming Billy, Child of My Heart, and After This, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. She received the National Book Award in 1998 for Charming Billy. Her articles, reviews, and stories have appeared in the New York Times, New Yorker, Washington Post, and elsewhere. Among other honors, she has received the Whiting Writers’ Award and the 2008 Corrington Award for Literature. She is currently the Richard A. Macksey Professor of Creative Writing in The Writing Seminars at The Johns Hopkins University.
