Tennessee Williams Playwright-in-Residence Edith Freni

Edith Freni

We would like to welcome Edith Freni as the Tennessee Williams Playwright-in-Residence for the 2016-2017 academic year at the University of the South. Freni holds both a BFA and an MFA from New York University’s Department of Dramatic Writing. Her work has been produced and developed in New York and nationally at theaters including Steppenwolf, LAByrinth Theater Company, the Williamstown Theater Festival, New York Theater Workshop, City Theater in Miami, and Actor's Express in Atlanta.

Freni is a three-time nominee for the prestigious PONY Award and a two-time finalist for the Jerome Fellowship. She was a 2015-16 Ingram New Works Lab resident playwright at Nashville Repertory Theater and the inaugural recipient of Emory University's Playwriting Fellowship. She has taught playwriting at Emory and the University of Miami.
